Good Morning.

The last three mornings, I’ve had a shiny glimmer of warmth to start each day.

Saturday night I had my usual unpleasant dreams all night. The kind of dreams that I don’t call nightmares because I don’t wake up in a panic, sweat, or screaming. The kind of dreams that I wake up feeling generally ill, queasy, or uneasy. In the midst of one of these dreams I found myself lying on the cold cement floor of a large public restroom. It was unclear to me whether this was a men’s room or a women’s room. It was dark, dingy, damp, and essentially in the middle of nowhere. As I was lying there, a friend came in, lay down next to me and held my hand. No words were exchanged, nor a glance. We just lay there on that disgusting floor holding hands. It was at that moment that I woke up, feeling comforted with a kind warmth which made starting my Sunday so much more pleasant.

Monday morning, the most lovely girl on earth came to my apartment at 7:00 am and made me pancakes before I had to leave for work. That’s right, she came over in the bitter cold on her day off to make me pancakes before work! Nuts. Let me tell you, it was the most perfect start to any day ever. Good conversation, granola spice pancakes, fresh pear, and lots of smiles. Last night when I came home, my apartment still smelled like pancakes and I got happy all over again.

This morning, I managed to leave my apartment at the same time that the Elementary school bus was arriving to pick up the neighborhood kids. As I approached my car, I noticed that some drawings had been made in the dusting of snow that was covering it. The dad who had been out waiting with his children at the bus stop noticed that I noticed and apologized for his kids. I gave him a big smile, which I really hope he knew was genuine, and told him not to worry about it at all. My car had been turned into a giant masterpiece of kid art! There is nothing better than kid art. Nothing.

I hope this trend of happy morning glimmers continues, because I’m really enjoying it.
